Redwood Mountain Faire

San Lorenzo Valley Music Festival

It started with a simple rewrite ...

The Redwood Mountain Faire started in the early 1980s as a way to feature local artists and musicians at a family friendly event and to raise money for local charities.

The Faire's board wanted to attract more attendees to the 2015 festival, especially young adults and families. They hoped to achieve this through a new website designed to be more user friendly with a clear navigation, high quality images, and engaging copy.

The copy needed to emphasize the wealth of musical talent featured at the festival and highlight that this is a fun, safe event that families with young children can feel comfortable attending.

My original role was to rewrite the website copy to reflect these goals and help choose a Joomla template for the new site.

I worked directly with the Faire Director and a contract developer hired for the project. I chose a template and created a wireframe complete with original copy and image placement and worked with the developer to implement the Director's vision for the site.

From copywriter to designer & developer

After running into issues with the Joomla template, we switched to Squarespace and I took over all design and development for the site. I recommended a new template and began implementing the design, with no prior experience in Squarespace.

With less than a month until the festival, I designed a new site from scratch, and greatly improved the overall user experience with a fresh, simple layout complemented by engaging copy.

The site's new copy captures the fun, creative spirit of the festival. Coupled with hand-chosen images of past Faires, it tells the story of the beloved festival and makes the reader giddy with anticipation for the big event.
